The blessing of separating light from darkness
Imagine if the gifts of Abel and Cain are mixed before they are presented to God. Abel is presenting some of his firstborns in a show of deep respect and consideration toward God. Cain, in contradiction, is performing a religious ritual of presenting some of his fruits of the land. Abel showed respect as a child of God and also showed fear of the lord as a slave of the lord, while Cain had none of it but ritual. In this setting it is a sin to present the respectful and faithful offering of Abel mixed with the inconsiderate and faithless offering of Cain. If both offerings are presented as one, what is God going to do? Be happy and unhappy at the same time? As devils are separated from children of light, when God says let there be light, it is good that the offerings of Abel and Cain are separated before they are presented before God.
