The Problem of Hermeneutics (Edited by ChatGPT)

The Pharisees of Jerusalem, by the book, rejected many heresies — yet by the same book they crucified Jesus. It is critical to know the Bible, because it is written for our guidance and education. It is the word of God and the truth from God — the spiritual law of heaven. It is the solid foundation by which we know evil from good, the devil from God, and antichrist from Christ Jesus.

The problem begins when the Word becomes life and the Truth of all truth — the Lord Jesus — comes in person. They searched the book, yet they did not know Him, even though the books testify about Him. Meanwhile, those who truly knew God recognized Jesus when He was only a few days old. The difference is not intelligence, but the difference between learning by the human brain using human hermeneutics and being educated by God. Scripture is the foundation of faith, but how we read Scripture matters.

Jesus did not say you will know Me by human knowledge or methods such as hermeneutics, but by the Holy Spirit. It is God who opens the mind to the truth that Jesus is Lord. If knowledge were the key, the disciples of Jesus would have been the Pharisees who killed Him — not fishermen, tax collectors, and sinners who followed Him. The wise and educated, armed with hermeneutics, did not know that Jesus is Lord, but children educated by God knew Him.

The Bible does not say we understand Scripture by studying history and language through human methods. It says Scripture is written by the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit will teach it. Jesus said you have one Teacher, one High Priest, and one Father — God. To claim that the Bible is understood by human methods is unbiblical and a lie. The Bible is written by the Spirit and is understood by the Spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can explain what it means.

The Bible does not say, “Go to college and study linguistics and history to know Scripture.” It says the children of God will be educated by God. To claim otherwise is a lie and of the devil. Jesus did not teach hermeneutics; He taught truth. He did not tell them to go to college to learn the Bible; He said the Holy Spirit would lead them into all truth.

Hyper-focus on hermeneutics is unbiblical, yet it is presumed to be biblical knowledge. Let us be practical. Assume you are in Jerusalem in the time of Jesus. You read the book, you keep the Sabbath, you value Scripture — yet Jesus stands before you. Will the book alone tell you He is right? No. To know Jesus is not possible by the book alone, but by the Holy Spirit. God must open your heart. To think otherwise is delusion — and that delusion leads to killing Jesus.

Is hermeneutics useless? No. But when it replaces the role reserved for the Holy Spirit and forces the children of God to be certified by human standards, it becomes sin. Hermeneutics is human wisdom attempting to use the wisdom of God to know God. It has value, but it is not the measuring rod of truth.

When we speak about the Bible, we must speak in biblical terms — what the Bible says and how Scripture is consistent with Scripture. We begin with the Bible and we end with the Bible. Your knowledge of history is useful to you; your knowledge of language is useful to you — but neither is the standard of truth. The Bible is. The Bible is universal truth, understood by Scripture interpreting Scripture and by the Spirit of God — as Paul teaches — not by human method. Human knowledge is a feeble garment: useful, but never sufficient.

So bring your verses and debate those educated by God. They debated Jesus and ended up killing Him. They debated Stephen and had to kill him too. They tried Paul and had to hunt him. You will not consistently defend your position by Scripture. Those educated by God are the work of God, not to be defeated by human work.

What is the difference between those educated by God, those educated by human methods, and those who do not know the Bible at all? Before the Babylonian invasion, Israel forgot the law. They later discovered it hidden and were shocked to find their lives contradicted it — but it was too late. Many faithful and spiritual people belong to this group. They have the Bible, yet barely know it. They are easily made horses of the devil. Not knowing where they are going, the devil can take them anywhere. They chase homosexuality, wealth, power, dominance, cultural war, crime, politics — the works of the flesh and the devil. They do not know God, and worse, they lead others into deception.

In the Second Temple period, the book was taken seriously — but God withdrew. They had Scripture and hermeneutics, but not the Spirit of God. God was not teaching them; they were teaching themselves by human methods. Human method is a feeble garment, inadequate no matter how polished. They needed to be educated by God. These are the ones who killed the Lord and proudly declared themselves sons of those who did the same.

Comparing the two societies, those with hermeneutics say, “We are better than those who do not know the book.” Yet neither knew God. The book and hermeneutics are not enough. You must be educated by God. That is why they read Scripture, master methods, and still fail to recognize God when He stands before them. They worshiped God through human culture and human systems, without knowing God Himself.

So what is my point? Hermeneutics is useful, but it is not the waterline of the knowledge of God. If I am traveling a path I do not know, a fool wanders blindly. A wise person studies the path — this is hermeneutics. But the blessed are those guided by someone who already knows the way. And who knows God better than God Himself? If God guides you, who can overrule Him?

You may debate which path is right. Those guided by God know the path best, and they define the limits of hermeneutics. When hermeneutics is done rightly, it may help you see the path — but it will never give you a better path than the one known by God.

To claim that without GPS, cartography, or technical methods one cannot know the way is foolishness. What matters is not your skill in navigation, but your knowledge of the destination. Knowing the method does not mean knowing the truth better. Those guided by God know better.

Imagine an ancient document written in a lost language. Linguists use methods to decipher it. Now imagine one person meets hidden spirits who speak that language and is made fluent by them. Who understands the document better? Does it make sense to debate methods? To claim that knowledge is impossible without human methods is human thinking — not truth. God is real, and the Bible is not a lie. Hermeneutics cannot stand against Scripture. Scripture says the children of God are educated by God.

Those who learn the Bible from God will know the Bible better. The devil also teaches, but lies are never consistent as truth is. The devil cannot defend his position, but those educated by God can. So if God wills, may you learn at the feet of Jesus from Jesus Himself. If not, study hermeneutics. Paul did not preach by human wisdom, but by the Spirit and the demonstration of power, so that faith would rest on the Holy Spirit — not on human thinking. Let us not downgrade faith to the level of human reason.
