Start with the lord Jesus Christ

Faith, on the lordship of Jesus Christ, needs to be built on the foundation of prophets and disciples, for the lord being the chief cornerstone and the foundation rock upon which everything stands firm. We are the temple of the lord and building of the lord; as the Holy Spirit judges us worth enough, through the blood of Jesus, to be his temple. This building of the lord, for its structural stability, needs to be built on a solid foundation, which is the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, the lord. Anyone who listens to the word of the Lord Jesus Christ and who obeys his commandments is built on solid foundational rock and is wise for that. A wind will come and a rain will follow but this house will stand firm because it is not built on sand, but on the solid rock, Jesus Christ himself.

Upon this foundation rock, the building’s boundary is demarked and the main foundation of the building is laid using the chief coroner stone(s) as the main foundation stone(s). Jesus is the chef cornerstone and anything that lies outside of the space marked by the cornerstone(s) is not part of the lord’s temple. The rest of the foundation is built from stones of prophets and disciples, upon the foundation rock and cornerstone(s) delineated by the life and teaching of the lord.

We are not done with the lord. After the foundation rock being Jesus, and after the chief cornerstone(s) being Jesus, everything revealed by all persons of God, in the bible, is connected by Jesus in building the temple of the Holy Spirit, us. Jesus is the foundation rock upon it everything is founded; the chief coroner stone(s) which made the main foundation stone(s); and the cement, the sand, and the iron which connects everything. Still, we are not done with the lord. Finally, the building has to look like him. When we are built right, we have to look like Jesus. Yes, a large army of prophets and disciples, from the bible, do contribute stones here and there, but what is their worth compared to the lord? Jesus Christ is the (revealed) wisdom of God and reflection of his (heavenly father’s) glory, and we need to be founded on him, built by him, and toward him.

Our foundational faith, therefore, is supposed to be built on the teaching, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Not Christology, which can be served to adults, but on basic teaching and life of the lord. Have the dish which is served to the disciples. They did not understand him, but they loved him. Love him first and foremost, so you can imitate him. Love is more important than knowledge. Love him to know him better. You cannot build your love on knowledge like the fools from Greece (the wise of this world). Yet upon love, knowledge of the word of God, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit builds the love properly.

A new born-again faithful, therefore, first and foremost need to know everything about the life and teaching of Jesus, before knowing anything else, and s/he needs to sink in the deepest love of the lord and his perfection, his teaching, his ways, his life, his service, and his sacrifice for our sins. The most damaging part of our theology and our pedagogy, unfortunately, is we did not start with Jesus. Some teach grace first, and others holiness. Yet, grace is built on the teaching, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus; and holiness is delineated by the life and teaching of Jesus. None of them, therefore, can stand firm without strong knowledge of the lord, and for that, we have to start the building of the temple of the Holy Spirit, us, from its proper foundation, Jesus Christ.
